The trip to New York City was
again a resounding success! 26 students and 13 adults left at
6:30 pm on Tuesday, December 2nd and arrived in Times Square
where we headed to the set of Good Morning America on Wednesday
morning. The students and chaperones enjoyed a wonderful time as
they experienced many of the landmark places, sights, and sounds
of New York City at Christmas time. They saw The Phantom of the
Opera on Broadway (with our seats starting 5 rows from the
stage!!) as well as The Rockettes at Radio City Music Hall.
Highlights of the trip included being interviewed by Al Roker on
the set of the Today Show, a tour of the United Nations building
where we were able to see the cavernous room where they hold the
General Assembly! We took the subway to the boat where we went
to Liberty Island (Statue of Liberty) followed by a trip to
Ellis Island. We also saw Ground Zero and St. Paul's Church
which survived 9/11 unscathed and was used for all the relief
workers. The students greatly enjoyed Chinatown and the shopping
there! That seemed to be a big hit. The Christmas decorations
and music created an extended atmosphere that made this trip so
special! One of the best aspects of this trip is that students
were exposed to core area information as well as experiential
learning and it was accomplished through fun activities.
I would also like to thank Mrs. Waller for her tireless efforts
on coordinating several fundraisers which made the trip
affordable for those who took advantage of this offer. Some
students were able to raise a significant amount thanks to her!!
I would also like to thank Mrs. McAllister for organizing the
bowling fundraiser for the trip. Thanks again Mrs. Waller and
Mrs. McAllister!
