Course Title:

Physics I

(Grades 11 & 12)

Course Description:

This course  provides experiences in the fields of measurements, force, work and energy, heat, wave-motion, sound, light, electricity, and magnetism.  Mathematics will be used in problem solving.  Lab experiments will be included on a regular basis.

Many colleges require a physics credit, so the class is recommended for college bound students.  It is particularly important for those considering engineering, medicine or physical sciences in college.

Prerequisites:

Algebra 1, Geometry, Chemistry 1, 9th grade Science and one of the following: (Life Science Foundations, Biology I or Biochemistry).

Text and Materials:

Physics – Principles and Problems (Paul Zitzewicz)

Scientific Calculator (Recommended TI-30 or TI-83)

Supplementary Materials:

Required Course Content (Standards & Benchmarks):

Physics is an extended curriculum class so students coming to it should already have had the opportunity to master the high school science benchmarks.  However, their physics experience will allow them to review and extend their mastery of the physical many science and mathematics benchmarks.
