There are 5 Great Lakes. We share 4 of them with Canada. Only Lake Michigan is completely in the USA. Canada helped the United States to build the St. Lawrence Seaway. The St. Lawrence Seaway is the lakes, rivers, canals, bridges and locks that lead to the Atlantic Ocean. Ships can get from the Great Lakes' states to other countries when they use the St. Lawrence Seaway. Ships from other countries can get to the Great Lakes' states by using the St. Lawrence Seaway.Cities on the water are called ports. Ships stop at ports to load and unload their goods. There are many ports on the Great Lakes. The 8 states that touch the Great Lakes have many ports. |
