Building Information

Office Rules

  • You need permission from your teacher AND A PASS to visit the counseling area. You must obtain a "Request to See Counselor" form from your teacher if you need assistance from a counselor or administrator.

  • Emergency situations allow you to request permission from your teacher or to report during a hall passing. Emergencies are illness, falls, broken bones, insect stings, girls-personal, and nose bleeds.

Attendance Rules

  • If you are absent, your parent must call the school or counselor with the reason for the absence. The attendance office number is 313-295-5782.

  • Make it your goal to never miss any school. Being absent can affect your grade and it may result in loss of credit.

  • It is the responsibility of each student to be in their seat and ready to work at the start of class. Tardiness in not acceptable.

  • Excessive tardiness will result in referrals to the counselor and ultimately to the assistant principal.

  • If you miss more than one half of a class period, it will be counted as an absence from that class for the day.

  • Absence from school for the day means any student not in attendance for at least 4 class periods.
  • Students absent or suspended on the day of an after school activity will not be allowed to participate that day.

Student ID

All Hoover students receive a picture ID. They must have them on their person each day they are in school. There is a $10.00 charge to replace it. Students use their ID's to check out library books. Student ID's are also checked upon entering the Morning Gym Program and entering the cafeteria for lunch.

Tardy Policy

Tardies 1 - 3

  • Warning from teacher, possible phone call home
Tardies 4 - 6
  • Morning detention assigned by the teacher
  • 7:00 am - 7:35 am (only students with detention will be allowed in the building at 7:00, all others have to wait until 7:15)
Tardies 7 and up

  • Teacher writes referral
  • Assistant principal assigns out-of-school suspension

Students need to have something to work on or read during detention.

Cafeteria Rules

  • You may sit wherever you like in the cafeteria and remain seated during the entire lunch period.

  • Your talking should be soft and conversational at all times.

  • When anyone uses the microphone, you are to cease all talking immediately.

  • You are responsible for disposing of all trash on, under, or near your table. No food is to be taken out of the cafeteria.

  • Lunch detentions may be assigned when deemed necessary.
