| The Taylor Special Education Team uses the following procedure to determine the presence of a Learning Disability: For students in grades K-2, we use RTI data (MLPP/DRA scores) and information from the STAR (Strive to Accelerate Reading) Program. If students do not make sufficient progress in STAR, a child study meeting and academic screening may be completed. If a Special Education evaluation is warranted, the team will also conduct a comprehensive evaluation based on the Pattern of Strengths and Weaknesses (CHC) model of cognitive abilities. For students in grades 3-12, we require teachers to implement 8-10 weeks of research based interventions with the struggling student. If the interventions are unsuccessful, the team will hold a child study meeting and complete an academic screening. If a Special Education evaluation is warranted, we will complete a comprehensive evaluation based on the Patter of Strengths and Weaknesses (CHC) model of cognitive abilities.
