In simple terms, Inclusion is when special
education and general education students are in the same classes
together. The general and special education teachers work
together using special tools and teaching techniques to make sure
all of their students are successful. Some students may still
find this too difficult and would then be placed in a
cross-categorical classroom where the classes are smaller and the
teaching more individualized.

Placement Considerations
-
Unless the disability requires another
arrangement, the child is educated in the school he or she would
attend if nondisabled;
-
Consideration is given to potential harmful
effects or quality of services needed;
-
Child is not removed from education in
age-appropriate regular classrooms solely because of needed
modifications in the general curriculum.
|
Least Restrictive Environment (LRE)
-
To the maximum extent appropriate, children
with disabilities are educated with children who are nondisabled
and
-
That special classes, separate schooling or
other removal of children from the regular environment occurs
only if the nature or severity of the disability is such that
education in the regular classes with the use of supplementary
aids and services cannot be achieved satisfactorily.
